Ally Labs
Pre-Stabilized Bases

Build on a Pre-Stabilized Base

Start from an established formulation foundation, then customize the product to fit your brand, product experience, and packaging goals. Depending on the base and the changes requested, beginning from a pre-stabilized starting point may help us move into sampling sooner than a completely ground-up formulation.

What Is a Pre-Stabilized Base?

A head start, not a stock product

An Ally Labs pre-stabilized base is an established formulation foundation that already has much of the early formulation work completed. A brand may use a suitable base with little change or work with our team to tailor supported elements such as fragrance, featured ingredients, sensory profile, positioning, and packaging. Each project still moves through our normal development, sampling, review, and scale-up process.

Begin from an established foundation

Much of the early formulation work is already complete, so a project can start further along than a completely ground-up formulation.

Customize what matters

Tailor supported elements such as fragrance, featured ingredients, sensory profile, positioning, and packaging to fit your brand.

A potentially faster path to sampling

Because development begins from an established starting point, we may be able to move into sampling sooner. Timing still depends on the selected Base and requested changes.

How It Works

From starting point to finished product

  1. 01

    Review Available Bases

Review the available Pre-Stabilized Base starting points for the relevant product category, or talk with our team if you are unsure which option may fit the project.

  2. 02

    Consultation & Project Review

We review the selected Base, product goals, supported customization, intended claims, packaging, target volume, and other project requirements before confirming fit.

  3. 03

    Customize Supported Elements

Our team evaluates supported changes such as fragrance, featured ingredients, sensory profile, positioning, and packaging. Requested changes are reviewed for compatibility and may require additional formulation work or testing.

  4. 04

    Sampling & Product Review

We prepare a sample for review and use consolidated feedback to refine supported elements as needed. Sampling timing and the number of rounds vary based on the Base and requested changes.

  5. 05

    Approval, Production & Ongoing Support

After formula approval, required testing is addressed, materials and packaging are confirmed or on-site, and the project is production-ready, it can move into production scheduling. Typical production lead time is approximately six to eight weeks, subject to project requirements and scheduling.

Starting from a base may help move a project into sampling sooner, but it does not guarantee a specific timeline or unlimited customization. Every product still moves through our normal review, testing, and approval steps.

Pre-Stabilized Base vs. New Product Development

Both pathways can lead toward a manufacturable product. The right starting point depends on your product goals, the level of formulation originality and customization required, project timing, and whether an available Pre-Stabilized Base fits the brief.

Starting point

Pre-Stabilized Base

An established formulation foundation

New Product Development

Built from your concept

Typical path to first sample

Pre-Stabilized Base

Often shorter, depending on the base and the changes requested

New Product Development

Longer, and includes full formulation development

Testing

Pre-Stabilized Base

The base is already developed; requested changes are reviewed and may need further testing

New Product Development

A new formula moves through the review and testing the project requires

Customization

Pre-Stabilized Base

Supported elements such as fragrance, featured ingredients, sensory profile and packaging

New Product Development

Open, defined by your brief

Best fit

Pre-Stabilized Base

Brands adding a SKU or extending a line

New Product Development

Brands with a specific, original product concept

Need a formula built entirely from concept? New Product Development is the better starting point. Want to begin from an established foundation? A Pre-Stabilized Base is the more direct route.

Who is a Pre-Stabilized Base right for?

Not every brand needs to start from scratch. Here is how to tell whether a base fits your next launch.

  • Adding a new SKU or line extension

Your brand already has a line, and you want to add a product without running a full development cycle from the ground up.

  • Launching a specific product format

You know the format and positioning you need, and you want an established starting point rather than a blank page.

  • Working toward a market window

You have a defined market window and want to evaluate whether an established starting point could reduce some early formulation work. Timing still depends on the selected Base and project requirements.

When a base might not be the right fit: if your brand needs a fully original formula built around a specific proprietary ingredient combination or claim, New Product Development is likely the better route.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to build on a Pre-Stabilized Base?

Pricing depends on the selected Base, requested customization, ingredients, packaging, order volume, and other project requirements. Ally Labs does not charge a separate standard development fee for qualified manufacturing projects. Unusual raw-material, third-party testing, regulatory, documentation, or other project-specific costs are discussed and approved in advance when applicable. Production pricing is quoted based on the final project scope.

What is the difference between a Pre-Stabilized Base and New Product Development?

A Pre-Stabilized Base begins with an established formulation foundation developed by Ally Labs, while New Product Development begins with a new product concept and custom formulation work. The right pathway depends on the starting point, degree of customization, and needs of the project. Both pathways still move through appropriate review, testing, packaging, scale-up, and production-readiness steps.

How long does it take to go from a Pre-Stabilized Base to a finished product?

Beginning from a Base may reduce early formulation work and help a project move into sampling sooner, depending on the selected Base and requested changes. Once the formula is approved, required testing is addressed, materials and packaging are confirmed or on-site, and the project is production-ready, typical production lead time is approximately six to eight weeks. Actual timing varies by project and production scheduling.

What can be customized in a Pre-Stabilized Base?

Depending on the selected Base, supported customization may include fragrance, featured ingredients, sensory profile, positioning, and packaging. Requested changes are reviewed for compatibility and may require additional testing before production.

Do I own the formula after customizing a Pre-Stabilized Base?

Ally Labs retains ownership of its internal base formulas. Rights and ownership terms applicable to a customized formulation are governed by the applicable manufacturing agreement and should be confirmed during project scoping. These are not white-label finished products; the selected Base serves as a starting point for supported brand-specific customization.

Is a Pre-Stabilized Base the same as a white-label formula?

No. A Pre-Stabilized Base is not a white-label or shared-use finished product. Ally Labs retains ownership of its internal base formulas, and supported elements can be customized around the brand and project requirements before production.

What happens if none of the example Bases fit my product?

Talk to our team. We will review your brand goals and product concept to help you find a closer match, or scope a fully custom formula through New Product Development if that's a better fit.

What is a Pre-Stabilized Base?

A Pre-Stabilized Base is an established formulation foundation developed by Ally Labs that can be customized in supported ways around the brand. Starting from an established foundation can reduce early formulation work, while the customized formula still moves through the review, testing, packaging, and scale-up appropriate to the project.

Which product categories offer Pre-Stabilized Bases?

Available pre-stabilized starting points are shown only for selected Skincare, Hair Care, Bath & Body, and Pet Care formats. Specialty and OTC projects are evaluated through other development pathways and are not presented as pre-stabilized bases. Available bases and customization options vary by product and project.

Do Pre-Stabilized Bases come with any guarantee of exclusivity?

Bases are not automatically exclusive to one brand. What sets your finished product apart is the customization layered on top, including fragrance, packaging, and positioning. Raise exclusivity during consultation.

Is there a minimum order to work with a Pre-Stabilized Base?

Order requirements vary depending on the base, packaging, and production run, so we do not publish a fixed figure. Talk to our team about your expected volume and timeline.

Do I need to supply my own fragrance?

No. If you already have a fragrance direction, we can work it into the base during customization. If not, our team can review fragrance oil or essential oil options that fit your brand and product type.

How long does a finished product stay stable on the shelf?

Shelf stability depends on the final formulation, packaging, and preservative system used. Stability testing during sample development evaluates how a formula holds up over time, including viscosity, fragrance, and separation, and the required review is completed before a formula moves toward production.

How is suitability handled for a particular skin, hair, or coat type?

Suitability is reviewed for the individual formula and its intended use rather than applied broadly across a category. Requirements specific to your product are evaluated against the selected base during consultation.

Can I use organic or naturally derived ingredients in a Pre-Stabilized Base?

Naturally derived ingredients may be evaluated for compatibility with the selected base. Our formulation team reviews compatibility with the existing base structure before any new ingredient is added, and organic positioning or certification stays specific to the individual formula and program rather than applying across a category.
